About Us
The Peterson Vineyard along River Road in the Santa Lucia Highlands is the result of a 10-year effort to secure land in the Santa Lucia Highlands with the goal to grow premium pinot noir and chardonnay and produce wine from those grapes by late owner John Peterson. Peterson Vineyard produces small quantities of artisan crafted wine from meticulously farmed, Estate Grown grapes for the Mansfield-Dunne label and for select winemakers. The vineyard is 7.8 acres planted to pinot noir clones 828, 667, 05, 115 and 777 and 1.95 acres planted to Chardonnay. The vineyard has a perfect Southeast exposure overlooking the Salinas River Valley and benefits from the unique SLH terroir. The Santa Lucia Highlands offers a cool, ocean influenced climate, with morning fog burning off to midday sun and cooling afternoon winds. The overall climactic combination results in an especially long growing season that allows the grapes to fully develop and attain maximum potential. Pinot Noir thrives in this environment.
