Playa Alta Vineyard

Est. 1973

The Playa Alta vineyard sits atop sandstone-based soils which were gradually lifted from the seafloor via geological processes over millions of years. These ancient, well-drained soils are optimal to produce balanced wines. The vineyard is comprised of 112 acres of Pinot Noir, 137 acres of Chardonnay, 7 acres of White Riesling and surrounded by 60 acres of native oak woodlands. An ecologically sensitive approach to farming has been implemented at Playa Alta since the land was developed in the early 1970's. Current owner, U.S. Viticulture Farmland, LLC, maintains this tradition, continuously endeavoring to harmonize the vineyard with its natural surroundings. Characteristically, the revered wines produced from Playa Alta express a true sense of place.
