What is the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA
Why SLH Is Different
The Santa Lucia Highlands AVA is California wine country on its own terms. Ancient granite terraces rise from the Salinas Valley floor into some of the most demanding winegrowing terrain in the state. It offers steep, wind-battered benchlands where thin soils and abundant sunshine meet the cold marine breath off Monterey Bay. The result is lingering morning fog and afternoon wind that stretches the growing season long, slow, and cool. This is Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with a tension and energy that neighboring AVAs simply can't replicate. The farming families who recognized this land's potential generations ago are still here. So are the celebrated winemakers who keep making the drive to source their fruit.

Climate, Wind & Geography
Where the Pacific Shapes Every Vintage
Abundant sunshine. Genuine cool climate. The paradox is real, and it's what makes SLH wines unlike anything else in California.

In The Glass
Pinot, Chardonnay, and the Rest of the Story
Cool nights, long days, and relentless wind build wines with tension and energy, bright acidity yet depth, structured and age-worthy, and delicious from the first pour.

History & Heritage
Generations on This Land
The names on the labels are the names on the mailboxes. Multi-generational farming families shaped these vineyards before the appellation had a name. And they're still here.

Sustainability
Farming for the Next Generation
These families aren't farming for this vintage. They're farming for the next hundred years, and their land stewardship reflects it.
