Tondre Wines
By AppointmentWith nearly a century of combined farming experience in California’s Salinas Valley, Tondre Alarid and his son Joe planted Tondre Grapefield in 1997 with a shared dream: to grow world-class wine grapes from the rugged beauty of the Santa Lucia Highlands. What began as a father-and-son vision became a lasting legacy rooted in hard work, humility, and a deep respect for the land. That legacy lives on in every row of vines—and in the fields beyond them. Today, Joe farms alongside his son Brian, continuing the family tradition across both wine grapes and the vegetables that have long defined their livelihood. Together, they carry forward a commitment to sustainability—guided by experience, strengthened by the next generation, and validated through third-party CSWA vineyard certification. Why “Grapefield”? The name is a heartfelt nod to where it all began—and to the work that continues today. Their vegetable fields and grape fields add to the beautiful tapestry of the Santa Lucia Highlands. “Grapefield” felt like a natural evolution, honoring those roots while marking a new chapter. Today, that name appears proudly on Tondre’s own wines, as well as on bottles from some of the region’s most respected producers who seek out their vineyard-designated Pinot Noir, Riesling, Syrah, and Chardonnay. It is a story of place, family, and farming—carried through every vintage, shared generously in the quiet joy of the fruits they offer to others.
